David Girling

At the heart of my counselling practice is a commitment to guiding your navigation through your personal journey in a way that feels right for you.

As a therapist, I trained in person-centred, humanistic counselling, but my approach is pluralistic in practice. This means we focus not only on what you’re experiencing in the present moment—your immediate thoughts and emotions during our sessions—but also on the underlying causes and your wider life history. You are the expert in your own life, and I bring expertise in the therapeutic process to support you.

My work is shaped by my background in outdoor education and learning. With over twenty five years of experience, I have had the privilege of guiding individuals through transformative, experiential learning in nature. This journey led me to design and lead the BA (Hons) in Outdoor Education and Learning for the University of the Highlands and Islands here in sunny Scotland. My expertise in outdoor safety, coaching, and leadership allows me to offer therapy in both traditional and outdoor settings, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

I have always believed in the healing power of nature. Time outdoors has a profound impact on mental well-being and personal growth, and I integrate this belief into my work. Whether you choose one-on-one therapy or a group therapy session, my aim is to support meaningful change in a way that aligns with your needs.

Alongside my practice, I work with a team of highly qualified, BACP-accredited counsellors, each bringing their own expertise in both traditional and outdoor therapeutic approaches.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing a moment of connection in nature soon.
